How The Collective Came to Be
The Collective opened in 2018 after its founders spent three years watching the Memorandumului corridor develop without acquiring the kind of grounded, personal local business they felt the area deserved. The brief was simple: create a space with the warmth of a family-run shop and the consistency of a professional operation. The charcoal-and-gold interior palette was chosen in the first planning sessions and has not changed — it reflects the tone we wanted from the start: serious about quality, warm in its welcome. The team has grown modestly since then, adding one or two people each year based entirely on fit rather than growth targets. Everyone who works here lives within fifteen minutes of the front door.
The Values That Govern Daily Decisions
We have never written a formal values document — we find that values either show up in daily behaviour or they do not. What we can say is that three questions get asked internally whenever a decision comes up: Does this make the experience better for the person in front of us? Does it make the working environment better for the team? And is it sustainable over a ten-year horizon rather than a quarterly one? If the answer to all three is yes, we usually proceed. If any one of them is no, we think harder. It is a slow way to build a business, and it is the only way we have found that produces a place we are genuinely proud of.
